Keep your kids reading this summer, and prevent summer loss, with these 10 great reading incentive programs:

Kids must read any eight books this summer and record them in the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Imagination’s Destination Journal. They then bring their completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 24th and September 6th, 2011, and choose a free book from the book list
featured on the back of the journal.

 

Half Price Books Feed Your Brain

For kids 14 and under. Get a Feed Your Brain Reading Log  and set a goal to read each day for at least 15 minutes or more throughout June and July. Grown-ups may read aloud for kids who are still learning.
Kids add up minutes and have their parents or guardians initial at the end of each week. If kids read 600 minutes or more, they can turn in their reading log at Half Price Books July 25 – August 7 to receive $5 Back-to-School Bucks summer reading reward. One top reader per age group will receive a $20 HPB Gift Card.

A free 6-week program to help children discover the joys of reading. You’ll receive: A daily email with fun activities to build reading skills, tricks and advice from your Challenge coach, great book suggestions for kids of all ages, tips from other parents taking the challenge, and a chance to win daily prizes.

– Kids ages 12 and under can take the Borders Double Dog Dare Challenge. If they read 10 books and keep track of them on the PDF form, they can then bring it into their local Borders and receive a coupon for a FREE book.

If kids read and keep track of 10 books this summer they will get $10 added to their Young Saver Account

Download and print out the calendar, and mark the days off with a pen or sticker as your child accomplishes their goals. Bring it in completed to Chuck E. Cheese’s and receive 10 free tokens as a reward.

 

Every Tuesday from 11:00 to 11:30am, Pottery Barn Kids stores have a story time for young children. Attendees get a book club card and a special gift after they have visited five times.

For each book kids read and write a book report over, they’ll get to see a movie at a National Amusements movie theater for free.

The movies are at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays this summer and adults and younger siblings will get in free as well.

The H.E. Buddy Summer Reading Club sponsored by HEB grocery stores gives out a package of cool prizes for each child who reads 10 books this summer. Visit the HE Buddy website, click on Clubs and Contests, and the click on ‘Join’ to get started.

Don’t forget to check in to your local library for all sorts of fun reading programs and incentives. Most will be offering something to keep kids visiting throughout the summer.
