Gabriele is currently reading 'Throne of Fire'

Welcome to the second post in our ‘Featured User’ series! I would like to introduce you to Gabriele, 10 1/2 years old, who has been a Reading Rewards member since September, 2010.

Gabriele has logged over 131 reading hours on our site (well done!!), and has reviewed 24 books. Great job!

We asked Gabriele to answer a couple of questions about RR:

Do you have an all-time favorite book? What sort of book do you generally enjoy?

A difficult question. My favourite books would be the Lord of the Rings series. The author, J.R.R. Tolkien, is one of the only authors capable of making me get lost in his spectacular imagination and uncomparable creativity.  Directly below him is Rick Riordan and Michael Scott. (Authors of Percy Jackson and Nicholas Flamel series).

As for what book topics I enjoy reading they would be fantasy, magic, , battles and friendship. A good example of an author who writes these kinds of books would be Christopher Paolini (the Inheritance series).

Where is your favorite place to read? When you do usually read?

Gabriele: My English teacher, Miss Layal allows the class to “silent read” for about 5-15 minutes. I read whenever I have the chance to.

Do you enjoy using the Reading Rewards website? What do you like about it? Could you tell us what would make it better?

Gabriele: Reading Rewards is extremely useful!!!  I can finally log in reading time without using paper and pencil. A brilliant idea! Children can earn rewards with the simple cost of reading!!!

You could improve Reading Rewards to its full extent by letting the kids chat with each other and read their messages instantly, kind of like MSN.

Thanks for your great answers, Gabriele!  I wanted to respond to your ‘chat’ request: allowing kids to chat on Reading Rewards would go against what we believe in! We are trying to get kids reading, and would not want you to be spending all your time instant messaging. Send the occasional message to a friend, but then go and read… ;-)

Here is a list of Gabriele’s book reviews, pulled directly from his Reading Rewards profile. We think you’ll agree that he is an extremely well read 10 year old, and expresses himself beautifully. Enjoy!

The Alchemyst
I’ve already read this book three times! For those who enjoy reading about magic and ancient mythologies, I
HIGHLY recommend this book. :o)

A Wrinkle in Time
A spectacular book about travelling through time and space a the speed of the 5th dimension wich is even faster than the speed of light! 3 children must go on a quest to save their father on the planet of Camazotz.
There they will find the mysterious IT.

Mister Monday: Keys to the Kingdom Book 1

The Necromancer
This may surprise you, but Micheal Scott is probably an equal or maybe even a better author than Rick Riordan! A surprising, sad, and violent book where Josh and Sophie only have a slight chance of saving the world. They are so powerful that their powers give them the option of saving it, or destroying it, but Josh is turned to the evil side and now he help Dr. John Dee, the evil necromancer….

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book Five: Last Olympian
I would reccomend this book for people wo enjoy reading about adventure, mythologie, action, and lots of laughter as well. It is the fifth book in the Percy Jackson series.

The proof this is a good a great book, this is the second time I read it!!! :o)

The Heroes of Olympus, The, Book One: Lost Hero
Did you miss the Percy Jackson stories? Well, Rick Riordan has made a new series of books with many familiar demigods from the origional Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I had so much trouble keeping my eyes of this book at school and at home because it was so amazingly interesting ! Have a fun time reading this book!

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1)
An excellent book to start the Percy Jackson series!!!

I am reading the novels all over again, and this book has inspired me about learning and studying greek mythology!

Many Waters
Madeleine L’Engle is a great writer. This book is the best compared to the other three novels she has written. I would recommend this book if you want to read about action, a little romance, sadness, hope, happiness and Christian Mythology that you can also find in the Acopalypse. There are even Nephilim and Seraphim, angels that come down to the earth and have children with mortal women. A great book!

Found
A pure masterpiece.

Aenir
A great book about Tal, who is a chosen boy, and Milla, an Icecarl. They must go on a dangerous quest to return a syndrome to thé Far Raiders, and Tal must find his brother Gref, who may be dead.

The Kane Chronicles, Book Two: The Throne of Fire
A spectacular sequel to The Red Pyramid!!!
Rick Riordan has a natural skill for writing books and they inspire me.
The events that happen in this novel are breathtaking!!!!

READ THIS BOOK!!!

An Acceptable Time
A great book that can teach you about time and space and physics. Polle and Zackary are lost in a world 3000 years ago. Can they survive until they can come back to their own time?

Because of this book, I think that Einstein’s famous equation, e=mc2, means that matter and energy are equivalent, so when an object uses energy to increase its speed, its mass would get bigger. But if an object wanted to travel at the speed of light, its mass would be so huge that it wouldn’t be able to reach the speed of light, so in terms of space travel it means that time and space cannot be separated.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #5: The Ugly Truth
Really funny author! I don’t know where he gets this humourous imagination. This book is the best of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I hope there will be a sixth book. Great job, Jeff Kinney!

P.S. “Rowley, nobody likes your zit.”

The Keys to the Kingdom #2: Grim Tuesday
Arthur must venture into Grim Tuesday’s realm so he can unleash the second part of the will and claim the mastery of the Far Reaches. Even if he survives this challenge, there is little hope left for saving the beautiful creations of the Architect. When… actually if he defeats Grim Tuesday, he still needs to become Duke of the border sea, commander in-chief of the Glorius army of the Architect, Master of the Middle House, Master of the Upper House, and the hardest challenge yet, defeating Lord Sunday and becoming the ruler of the Incomparable Gardens.

Brisinger
The amazing third sequel to the Inheritance series, Eragon and Saphira must find ways to continue their training in the deadly arts of magic in Ellesméra, so they can bring the Varden back to its former strength. Meanwhile, his cousin Roran has joined the Varden and will help Lady Nasuada’s army. Will Eragon be able to unite the elves, urgals, dwarfs, and maybe even the Ra’ zac agains Galbatorix’s vast forces? This amazing novel contains all the elements that make it interesting, crime, punishment, blood, gore, unbreakable oaths, and utter betrayal.

Witch & Wizard

Drowned Wednesday: Keys to the Kingdom Book 3
To claim the third key and the third part of the will, Arthur Penhaligon, Master of the Lower House and Lord of the Far Reaches must tracel on the Mantis and meet with Lady Wednesday. She seems friendly, but Arthur is not sure if he can trust her, but Wednesday’s Dawn assures him.

Brian’s Hunt
An excellent novel about hunting. Includes a bit of laughter, violence, but it is sad and happy at times.
I loved the book!
