In Iceland, books are exchanged on Christmas Eve as part of Jólabókaflóð (Icelandic for “Yule book flood”), and people spend the evening curled up, reading and eating chocolate. Anybody else checking out flights to Iceland??

While we might not all live in Iceland or get to celebrate the real Jólabókaflóð, we believe there is no greater gift at Christmas than the gift of reading, so we’ve carefully picked some great Christmas stories for kids that you won’t want to miss!

From Christmas stories around the world, to the timeless classics you remember from your own childhood, through to some newer but just as heartwarming tales, we’ve compiled a list that has something for everyone. We really hope you enjoy it!

Happy Holidays, and Happy Reading!

Christmas Stories from Around the World

From the wordless ‘The Snowman’ that tells the tale of a young boy who befriends the snowman he built, to Tolkien’s Letters from Father Christmas, the story of the letters his children received every year from the North Pole, these timeless Christmas stories from around the world will warm your heart and prove that the true spirit of Christmas knows no bounds.

Classic Christmas Stories for Kids

Between the lavishly illustrated classic poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’, the gorgeously crafted tale steeped in the culture of Appalachia of ‘The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree’, and the mischievous but ultimately soft-hearted Grinch that eventually succumbs to the spirit of Christmas, it is certainly hard to pick a favorite classic Christmas story for kids. You will want to share all of these with your loved ones if you haven’t already!
